It’s September, and the kids are back in school.  Minds are being stimulated. Dorm rooms are getting messy.  What better time to reconnect with your College than through the new One Mead Way e-newsletter?

New Students, New President

On Labor Day weekend, 375 new students trundled their possessions into the dorms, said goodbye to their parents, and started life as SLC first-years. The class of 2011 includes:

  • Representatives of 38 states and 15 countries, including China, Brazil, Finland, Serbia, and Pakistan
  • 75% women, 25% men
  • 21% self-identified students of color

President Karen R. LawrenceThey’re not the only newcomers to campus—President Karen Lawrence started her job on August 1.  She’s getting settled in the President’s House and plans to have all the first-years over for dinner (not all at once).

Lawrence’s inauguration will take place October 5, 2007.  You should have received your invitation in August—we hope you can come.

In addition, you can celebrate inauguration all year long with a series of lectures, discussions, and events at SLC and in New York City.

Can’t make it back to campus?  We recommend attending one of the inauguration on the road events being held in major cities throughout the year.

Best Fundraising Year Ever!

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve broken ALL of our previous fundraising records. Last year, 4124 alumnae/i, parents, and friends contributed $3,010,553 to the Fund for Sarah Lawrence—the most money the fund has ever raised.

The keys to our success? Strong leadership support (gifts of $1,000 or more) and loyal donors who give every year at all levels.

Giving to the endowment and strategic initiatives also exceeded all their past records.

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic year! Let’s impress the new president and break the record in 2007/08!
