Pitching your idea for a magazine or newspaper has been raised to an art form. The advantage is that once you’ve established yourself, your career can blossom and you can approach a variety of publications. By reviewing the process, from concept to finished article, we will become familiar with how editors and magazines operate. We’ll look at the pitch letter, discuss how and why your angle is unique, examine the submission process, and learn how to build relationships with media outlets.

Each of us creates a unique career path, yet we all need to translate our individual experiences into language others can use to describe us. The particular choices of what to include or omit for a clear and powerful resume, bio, or press release will vary, depending on the purpose for which it is intended. Bring samples of what you are using now, and prepare to revise, enhance, and rewrite your credentials for presentation to the media, a potential employer, or a professional contact.
